currently you can change a chest’s color by picking it up and putting it back down again, but this can only be done when the chest is empty, and you still can’t actually choose the color. Also, if you want your color coded chest to be somewhere else, you have to replace it several times until it’s the previous color again.
I agree it would be nice to (maybe right-click?) and choose the color manually.
