I really like the idea of having a compost to improve crop yield but I feel like it lacks variety in compostable ingredients. AFAIK apples are the only item I can put in the composting bin and those can only obtained in two ways:
Eating apples (which I hardly do as they don’t recover much health and are way more valuable as a raw ingredient for apple cider)
Collecting them from the ground as trash left by customers (does not happen often enough to consider it a viable source of compostable materials)
Fishing (which also does not happen nearly often enough to be able to reliably fertilize your farm)
I could imagine tieing the animal farm and the produce farm together would be a great opportunity to improve this system. For example, pigs could drop dung that could be composted in the bin. The pigs are fed with barley anyway so it would create a nice feedback loop between the two.
Another possibility would be similar to how composting in Minecraft works. You can add a variety of different organic materials to the bin and depending on their (monetary or nutritional) value and rarity, they add a certain “amount” to the bin. (apple core = 1, apple = 2, maybe meat and fish adds 3?).
